A Solutions Architecture ("ARC") project addresses a problem or challenge from a complete and comprehensive systems design perspective. Data science and artificial intelligence ("DSAI") are the essence of the project proposal, i.e. DSAI is either integral to its show-stopping features or vital for the solution to be successful or impactful or both.

Unlike a business plan or case competition, the ARC project does not need to justify its commercial existence, i.e. to show that it can be profitable or even bring in revenue. However, a good solution design is rooted in reality, thus able to create value and impact—which is not always measured by money!

An Engineering ("ENG") project addresses a problem or challenge with a technical proof-of-concept ("PoC") prototype. Data science and artificial intelligence ("DSAI") are the essence of the PoC, i.e. demonstrate key understanding in the design, development, and deployment of a PoC that applies and leverages the concepts of DSAI.

Unlike a hackathon, there are no time or resource limitations. Existing ideas are encouraged, as the PoC is designed to inspire further development into complete solutions. Therefore, the projects may be less rooted in reality, but the technology and technical competency matters much more!
